Act today for tomorrow: a container full of music

On Saturday, October 9, children of Dübendorf were invited to paint a container full of instruments on the town square. ITS has donated the container to Smiling Gecko and will soon ship it to Cambodia. The goal is to hand over the instruments to the Smiling Gecko School in Cambodia by Christmas.

Music is a fundamental part of a country's cultural identity and has a significant role in the communal life of any society. However, Cambodia's recent history has resulted in the current generation of children and young adults growing up without the "natural" integration of tradition and music as forms of cultural expression. And widespread poverty and inadequate school infrastructure are further obstacles to musical education.

“A container full of music” is a joint project of Smiling Gecko and Seven. For four months, the organization collected used but ready-to-play musical instruments for their school in Cambodia. More than 100 great instruments were collected. Now, the container filled with pianos, drums, guitars, violins, trumpets, and flutes can start its journey. The instruments will thus be given a second life; they will bring great joy to many Cambodian children and give them the opportunity of a musical education.

Together with Smiling Gecko, ITS acts TODAY for TOMORROW and wants to give children a somewhat better future.

Smiling Gecko is an aid project that breaks completely new ground. With economically and ecologically sustainable cluster projects, the organization pursues a holistic approach that leads to a lasting improvement in living conditions in rural Cambodian society.  www.smilinggecko.ch
